When to use ADVICE

Advice is a noun (S sound – Snake – Ice)

Synonyms: guidance, information, a recommendation, counsel

  • I am buying a new car. The salesperson gave me some advice.
  • I am buying a new phone. I need your advice. Should I buy an iPhone or an Android?


Tip: Advice is ALWAYS singular. We give advice. We do not say advices.


When to use ADVISE

Advise is a verb (Z sound – Lazy)

Synonyms: encourage, instruct, caution, recommend

  • Please advise the students that the college will be closed for one week.
  • My bank manager advised me not to invest in Bitcoin.
